Every DigitalOcean resource Duskwatch watches
A DigitalOcean team can run droplets, App Platform apps, Managed Databases, Kubernetes clusters, load balancers, volumes, Spaces buckets, certificates and uptime checks, each with its own corner of the control panel. Duskwatch is an independent iPhone app for DigitalOcean, in development; it shows all of them in one place, explains what looks wrong as findings, sends push alerts for the ones that can take you down, and offers a few guarded actions.
Updated
What it covers, resource by resource
Every resource below has its own screen with its state in words, never colour alone, and findings that say what is wrong and why. Push alerts are kept for the problems that take something down or cost money fast; the rest wait in the app as findings. Actions are few on purpose, each behind a confirmation sheet and Face ID.
| Resource | What you see | Example finding | Push alert | Actions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Droplets | State, CPU, memory, disk, bandwidth and load, firewall exposure, backups | Disk full in ~5 days at this rate | Yes: off or gone, and back on | Power on, shut down, power off, reboot, power cycle, take snapshot |
| App Platform | The live version, deploys and their likely cause, components, logs with live tail | Latest deploy failed | Yes: deploy failed, app unhealthy, and recovery | Roll back, commit or revert the rollback, redeploy, restart, cancel a deployment |
| Managed Databases | Status, nodes and standbys, maintenance, backups, trusted sources | No standby node | Yes: powered off, failed over or read-only, and recovery | Add my IP |
| Kubernetes | Cluster state, node pools and nodes, version, upgrades, maintenance | 1 node not ready for 25 min | No, findings only | None |
| Load balancers | The droplets behind it, forwarding rules, health check, settings | 1 of 2 droplets behind it is off | No, findings only | None |
| Volumes | Attached droplet, size, region, filesystem | Not attached, still billed | No, findings only | None |
| Spaces | Buckets, CDN and its certificate, access keys, this month's cost | 1 full-access key can reach every bucket | No, findings only | None |
| Certificates | Expiry, renewal type, domains, where each is used | Certificate expires in 9 d | No, findings only | None |
| Uptime checks | State in each region, 30-day uptime, DigitalOcean's alerts on the check | Down in 2/4 regions | Yes: down, and up again | None |
| Spend | Month to date, a month-end estimate, a budget with pacing, invoices | Spending may pass your budget | Yes: over budget, or on pace to pass it | None |
| DigitalOcean status | Incidents and maintenance for your regions, the last 14 days | DigitalOcean incident in FRA1 | Yes: an incident in your regions, and its resolution | None |
Not covered
- DNS, Functions and the container registry.
- Files in Spaces buckets: no browsing, uploading or deleting.
- Cloud firewall rules: findings point out what they expose, but there is no editing.
- Creating or deleting anything, in any product.
- Pods and workloads inside Kubernetes.
What DigitalOcean sends, and what the app adds
DigitalOcean's own alerts reach you by email and Slack. The app adds a push for the problems in the table marked Yes, from an alert server that can only read, and keeps everything else as findings you see when you open it. More on the push alerts page.
Monitoring alert policies notify by email, Slack, or both.

Spend alerts are email notifications based on actual usage, sent within an hour of spend crossing a threshold.
Within DigitalOcean's rate limits
Watching eleven kinds of things could mean a lot of requests. Every call to DigitalOcean goes through one client that fetches lists a page at a time rather than item by item, reads how much of the limit remains, and backs off when DigitalOcean asks it to wait. If it has to pause, the screen says so and shows saved data meanwhile.
The DigitalOcean API allows 5,000 requests per hour and 250 requests per minute.

- No push for Kubernetes, load balancers, volumes, Spaces or certificates.
- No DNS, Functions or container registry.
- No creating or deleting resources.
Questions
Which DigitalOcean products does Duskwatch cover?
Droplets, App Platform, Managed Databases, Kubernetes, load balancers, volumes, Spaces, certificates and uptime checks, plus billing and DigitalOcean status.
Which products are not covered?
DNS, Functions and the container registry. It also does not browse Spaces files, edit firewalls, or create or delete anything.
Which resources can send a push alert?
Droplets, App Platform apps, Managed Databases, uptime checks, spend and DigitalOcean incidents in your regions. Kubernetes, load balancers, volumes, Spaces and certificates show findings in the app instead.
Does it respect DigitalOcean's API rate limits?
Yes. All requests go through one client that paginates lists, watches the remaining limit and backs off when DigitalOcean asks it to wait.
